Answer: FIELDSTAR is AGCO’s precision farming system.

Answer: Yes, you will need a computer to process and evaluate yield maps and process application maps and ‘as-applied’ maps.

Answer: The accuracy of all these systems are the same. Suitable coverage is the main determining factor in selecting the right system. As a rule, the satellite correction system can be used anywhere in North America for a fee. The Coast Guard System provides a free signal, but provides only limited coverage. Coverage of the Coast Guard system in both the USA and Europe are shown on the respective websites.

Answer: Yes. You should note, however, that AGCO supports only GPS systems offered with FIELDSTAR. FIELDSTAR was set up to accept GPS data in a standard format. Most GPS receivers comply with this format. AGCO recommends that you contact the GPS supplier in question for instructions on connecting an alternative brand of GPS system to FIELDSTAR.

Answer: Yes, the FIELDSTAR GPS/DGPS systems follow a standard GPS output, allowing them to be used in other applications outside the combine.

Answer: Yes. FIELDSTAR provides an export feature that allows the user to export FIELDSTAR data for use in other software mapping programs.

Answer: Yes. FIELDSTAR is available as either a stand alone yield monitoring system or as a complete yield mapping including GPS/DGPS.

Answer: Yes. All FIELDSTAR systems are pre-wired for GPS, so it can be added at any time.

Answer: GPS allows you to create yield maps.

Answer: Yield maps show the yield variances in field as a serious of ‘contours’ – similar to a land map. Each contour line represents a different yield. These maps identify low yielding areas that require further investigation to find the cause. Possible solutions can be simple as seed variety selection, compaction, or pest control or as complex as fertiliser inputs, soil types and moisture management (irrigation/drainage). Some of these applications can be adjusted each year, while others should be based on 2-3 years of yield information to account for seasonal differences.

Answer: Field markers are used to mark problem areas within a field. These markers can then be overlaid on yield maps to identify why certain areas produced less.

Answer: Yes. Without GPS, field information is recorded on to the data card, but it is logged against time and not position. Therefore yield maps, which require position information, are not possible.

Answer: Yes. FIELDSTAR is designed as a universal terminal, GPS and processor for all FIELDSTAR operations. This means the system be transferred between vehicles for a variety of applications. This reduces future costs and means operators are familiar with just one operating system.

Answer: Yes. The FIELDSTAR Office Package is required to download and/or create yield maps.
