Fieldstar Yield Mapping is the key data-logging component in any precision farming system.
Yield mapping – measuring variability within fields
The more data points per hectare, the more accurate the contour maps and the picture of variation within a field.
Yield mapping is one of the key tools available within a precision farming system such as Fieldstar, providing a cost-effective method of collecting large quantities of data within a field. Typically, yield maps record between 500 and 800 data points per hectare.
Yield is the definitive indicator of success or failure in crop management, as it represents all the influencing factors that affect the crop over the course of a season. As farm incomes can vary significantly according to yield and quality, yield maps have become an essential component of an efficient farming system.
Yield mapping involves the process of recording the flow of grain through a combine harvester, at the same time as recording the machine’s movement through the field. It relies on two elements – the combine’s yield meter and GPS.
The yield meter uses mass flow technology to establish yield. Variations in bushel weight and specific gravity are automatically taken into account and do no affect the accuracy of the yield map. The GPS receiver, on the other hand, is mounted on the combine and can pinpoint exactly the position of individual yield measurements.
Analysing collected data
The GTA300 and GTA400 software packages from AGCO’s Advanced Technology Solutions group enable accurate information to be generated about the variability that exists across the farm and within fields.
All collected data can be exported in a simple file format – an ease of access that allows the user to select the preferred software system, such as the GTA suite, for analysis.
Fieldstar and Fieldstar II
Fieldstar uses a large, clear, touch-sensitive screen from which logged data is transferred to the office PC. Providing the operator with streams of information and the ability to alter settings, Fieldstar offers:

AGCO’s combine harvesters are fitted with either a Fieldstar or Fieldstar II terminal. Both terminals log data from the combine’s yield meter and optional moisture meter and both can utilise markers.
