SGIS Agronomy

SGIS Agronomy has been developed for use by professional agronomy service providers and crop consultants in helping their farmer clients remove as much risk as possible from the business of growing crops.

SGIS, which stands for Soil Geographic Information System, uses information from various sources and manages that information in such a way that more informed decisions can be made in relation to crop and nutrient management strategies.

Business Management Tools

Business Management Tools

Within SGIS Agronomy, a range of business management tools enables the agronomy service provider to create reports to manage the collection of information.

This information can include the overall harvest performance of a field, farm or operation, what products have been applied, what plans have been selected and the amount of product that will be required.

These reports enable the grower to compile the information for soil sampling rotations, how a field’s yield compares with the overall operation, how much product needs to be purchased by farm and operation and how product was applied by farm and operation.

Summary Reports

Enable the service provider and the grower to view:-

- Maps or text reports of sampling summaries for scheduling of re-sampling
- Text reports of harvest information and summaries for analysing returns
- Text reports of as-applied data for statutory reporting and nutrient tracking
- Text reports of spread map summaries for totals of products to be purchased

Soil Sample and Text Report

Soil Sample and Text Report

This report is generated to provide a map or text report of fields within a user-defined parameter, for managing the sampling rotation on individual farms and operations.

This allows the service provider and the grower to manage the timing and consistency of samplings and the grower to manage the cash flow of sampling expenses.

Harvest Summary Text Report

Harvest Summary Text Report

Generated to provide the grower with harvest information field-by-field, crop-by-crop, farm-by-farm and year-by-year.

It contains useful information such as field volume totals and averages and moisture averages.

As-applied Summary Text Report

As-applied Summary Text Report

Created to supply the grower with a text report of as-applied information by operation, farm, field, product and date applied.

This is a management tool that allows the grower to track the total amount of product applied and the average quantity applied per hectare. Tracking the average rate can be of particular importance where products are being applied at a variable rate.

Spread Map Summary Text Report

Spread Map Summary Text Report

Here, the grower receives a report stating minimum rate, maximum rate and field total product required for individual fields.

This report not only gives the grower the total product required for each field, but also the farm’s total requirement and the figure for the entire operation. It can also be used for planning of purchases for finance, purchase orders and pre-payments – and for planning logistics of products to respective fields.

Workload Efficiency

Workload Efficiency

SGIS Agronomy was developed and structured with the assumption that farming is first and foremost a business.

The ‘tree’ structure used by the system organises data by Service Provider (grower, crop consultant or inputs distributor), then by Grower, Farm, Field and Activity (Profit Analysis Calculator, Application or Analysis) and Plan for easy visualisation of the information and access to the relevant areas.

At the Grower, Farm and Field levels, the Events (Soil Samples, Harvest Data, As-Applied Data, etc) can be imported into SGIS, with the Harvest and As-Applied imports available for the creation of field boundaries.

At the Field level, a field boundary can be created or edited and crops can be assigned for full or split field assignments. This is also where the respective Activity (Profit Analysis, Application or Analysis) is created, the parameters determined and the plan executed.

Marketing Tools

Marketing Tools

SGIS Agronomy contains tools to help the service provider produce sales and marketing tools designed to promote technology programmes that will boost a customer’s profitability.

These tools allow the user flexibility in report titles and to zoom into the field, with background layers, statistics, logos and a colour legend.

The Quick Print Map View Layout enables the user to use roads, base data and imagery as background layers to produce field layout maps for the grower, or logistics maps for operators and contractors. The user can also zoom to the required map view and print or save that view.
